Saddle up for an unforgettable journey on the West Coast of the South Island. The Paparoa Track is a 55.7km shared hiking and mountain biking track located in the Paparoa National Park.
The Paparoa Track, along with the Pike 29 Memorial Track was built to remember 29 miners who lost their lives in the 2010 Pike River Mine disaster.
Crossing the Paparoa mountain ranges between the small ex-mining town of Blackball and the busy tourist village of Punakaiki, this journey offers breathtaking views of the South Island’s West Coast. While it can be ridden in a day, the route is dotted with three backcountry Department of Conservation (DOC) huts to encourage people to take in an overnight or multi-day experience.
Get ready to pedal through alpine peaks, limestone karst landscapes, and thriving rainforests.

A Paparoa Shuttle service from Greymouth-Blackball/ Smoke-ho car park at the start of the Track, and a pick-up service at Punakaiki returning you back to Greymouth; OR a vehicle relocation service to the end of the Paparoa Track while you enjoy your adventure, and you’ll also stay one night at The Formerly Blackball Hilton with breakfast for two people before your trip.
